The Rich Fool • 30x40inches • oil/canvas • by James B. Janknegt
"Take care! Protect yourself against the least bit of greed. Life is not defined by what you have, even when you have a lot."
Then he told them this story: "The farm of a certain rich man
produced a terrific crop. He talked to himself: 'What can I do? My barn
isn't big enough for this harvest.' Then he said, 'Here's what I'll do:
I'll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I'll gather in all
my grain and goods, and I'll say to myself, Self, you've done well!
You've got it made and can now retire. Take it easy and have the time
of your life!'
"Just then God showed up and said, 'Fool! Tonight you die. And your barnful of goods—who gets it?'
The Wise and Foolish Bridesmaids • 40x30inches • oil/canvas • by James B. Janknegt
"God's kingdom is like ten young virgins who took oil lamps and
went out to greet the bridegroom. Five were silly and five were smart.
The silly virgins took lamps, but no extra oil. The smart virgins took
jars of oil to feed their lamps. The bridegroom didn't show up when
they expected him, and they all fell asleep.
"In the middle of the night someone yelled out, 'He's here! The bridegroom's here! Go out and greet him!'
"The ten virgins got up and got their lamps ready. The silly
virgins said to the smart ones, 'Our lamps are going out; lend us some
of your oil.'
"They answered, 'There might not be enough to go around; go buy your own.'
"They did, but while they were out buying oil, the
bridegroom arrived. When everyone who was there to greet him had gone
into the wedding feast, the door was locked.
"Much later, the other virgins, the silly ones, showed up and knocked on the door, saying, 'Master, we're here. Let us in.'
"He answered, 'Do I know you? I don't think I know you.'
"So stay alert. You have no idea when he might arrive.
Firm Foundation • 40x30inches • oil/canvas • by James B. Janknegt
"These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your
life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are
foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words
into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on
solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but
nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.
"But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don't work them
into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on
the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it
collapsed like a house of cards."
